APPG Boxing meeting with Mims Davies MP (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Sport and Civil Society) on Wednesday 10th July 2019

The next meeting of the APPG Boxing will take place between 430pm - 530pm on Wednesday 10th July 2019 in Room W2, Westminster Hall.

We are delighted to have Mims Davies MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Sport and Civil Society, speaking at the meeting.  Ms Davies was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport on 5 November 2018; and was previously Assistant Government Whip from January 2018 to November 2018, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales from July 2018 to November 2018. In July 2016, Ms Davies was appointed as PPS to the then Digital and Culture Minister, Matt Hancock. Following the 2017 General Election, she was made PPS to Sajid Javid as Communities and Local Government Secretary. She has also served as a member of the Women and Equalities Committee and the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills. 

Ms Davies will be focusing on the following topics at the meeting:

  • Overview of DCMS strategic objectives for boxing (DCMS Single Departmental Plan);

  • Benefits of boxing to Women and tackling inequality;

  • Developing elite and grass roots boxing in the UK;

  • Planning for the Olympic (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024) and Commonwealth Games (Birmingham 2022): and

  • Proposals to increase participation in boxing.
